8 servings
- 4 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp peanut butter (smooth)
- 1 tbsp maple syrup or honey
- 2 tsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 pc garlic clove (finely grated)
- 1/2 tsp five-spice powder
Method
- Combine the soy sauce and smooth peanut butter in a small bowl, mashing with a fork until the mixture liquefies.
- Stir the maple syrup (or honey) and rice vinegar into the peanut butter base.
- Add the toasted sesame oil and the finely grated garlic to the mixture.
- Sprinkle in the Chinese five-spice powder, which provides the distinctive, authentic aroma.
- Whisk all the ingredients vigorously until the sauce is completely uniform, smooth, and glossy.
- Use immediately or store in an airtight jar in the fridge. Excellent as a dip for spring rolls or a glaze for roasted meats. Makes about 8 servings of 1 tbsp.
