Ingredients
12 servings
- 300 g flour
- 1 sachet dry yeast
- 150 ml warm milk
- 50 g butter (melted)
- 100 g grated cheese (e.g. Gouda)
- 2 tbsp fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme)
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
Method
- Mix flour, dry yeast, salt and sugar in a bowl. Add warm milk and egg and knead into a smooth dough. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 45–60 minutes until noticeably increased in volume.
- Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease a loaf tin.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface and divide into 12 even pieces.
- Brush each piece with melted butter and sprinkle with grated cheese and chopped herbs.
- Stack the dough pieces and layer them upright into the loaf tin.
- Cover and let rise for another 20 minutes.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and slightly crispy.
- Let cool briefly and serve warm – the individual layers pull apart perfectly.
