Ingredients

2 servings

  • 450 g fresh ground beef
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil, for frying
  • 4 slices Emmental cheese (20 g each)
  • 2 soft burger buns, halved lengthwise
  • lettuce leaves
  • red onion rings
  • cornichons
  • tomato slices, to taste

Method

  1. Knead the ground beef in a medium-sized bowl with salt and pepper. Divide the mixture into 4 portions and shape into flat burgers, no more than 1 cm thick — the thinner, the better.
  2. Heat a large grill pan over medium heat and brush the bottom thinly with the oil. Fry the burgers for 4 minutes without moving them. Then turn them over, loosen them slightly from the pan bottom, place 1 slice of cheese on each burger, and fry for another 2 minutes (or longer to taste).
  3. Stack 2 burgers on each bottom bun half. Top with lettuce leaves, onion rings, cornichons and tomato slices if desired, then place the top bun half on each and serve immediately.
